Frequently Asked Questions

Is the visa-free policy available for all nationalities?
No, the visa-free policy is currently available for citizens of 63 countries. This includes 25 countries with mutual visa exemption agreements, 38 countries under the unilateral visa-free policy (valid until Dec 31, 2025), and 54 countries eligible for 240-hour transit visa exemption. Use our checker tool above to verify your country's eligibility.
Can I extend my stay beyond the visa-free period?
If you entered China visa-free and need to stay longer for legitimate reasons, you must apply for a stay permit at the local public security bureau's exit-entry administration office. However, it's recommended to apply for an appropriate visa at a Chinese embassy or consulate before arrival if you know you'll need more than the visa-free duration.
What documents do I need for visa-free entry?
You need: 1) A valid ordinary passport with at least 3 months validity, 2) Blank pages for entry/exit stamps, 3) Return or onward ticket (within 240 hours for transit visa), 4) Accommodation confirmation, 5) Proof of visit purpose (invitation letter if applicable), and 6) Sufficient funds for your stay. Note that temporary or emergency travel documents are not accepted.
Can I work or study long-term with visa-free entry?
No, visa-free entry is only for tourism, business, family visits, exchange visits, or transit purposes. Those entering for work, long-term study, or journalistic reporting are NOT eligible for visa-free entry and must apply for appropriate visas. However, short-term language learning during your visa-free stay is permitted - check out our Chinese Fall Camp programs designed for visa-free visitors.
